Overview

Testis expressed basic protein 1 (TSBP1) is a protein encoded by the TSBP1 gene, previously known as C6orf10, located on chromosome 6[1][4][5]. TSBP1 is a lysine- and glutamine-rich protein, mainly localized to the nucleus and endoplasmic reticulum, with highest expression in testis but detectable at lower levels in many adult tissues and elevated levels in fetal and embryonic tissues[1]. It features two transmembrane regions and a C-terminal nuclear localization signal. TSBP1 is not a typical drug target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and has no known interacting drugs or well-characterized mechanism of action. While its precise biological role is unclear, genome-wide studies have linked genetic variants of TSBP1 (C6orf10) to increased susceptibility for some neurodegenerative and autoimmune diseases, suggesting a possible but undetermined role in these conditions[1][5]. Protein interaction predictions suggest possible involvement in protein complexes relevant to immune function, but direct functions remain undescribed[1].
