Overview

Testis-expressed protein 13A is a protein coded by the TEX13A gene, predominantly expressed in the testis. It plays a role in transcriptional repression and is required for rapid sperm motility and timely degradation of mRNA via its interaction with the CNOT1 component of the CCR4-NOT complex. Alternative splicing leads to multiple transcript variants. There are disease associations, including certain forms of X-linked deafness and syndromes with intellectual disability, but currently the protein is not considered a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or ion channel[2][3][6].
