Overview

Testis-expressed protein 13C (TEX13C) is an X-linked, testis-specific gene and member of the TEX13 family, which is primarily expressed in male germ cells, particularly in the nucleus of spermatogenic cells and mature sperm[1][2][3][5]. Although the precise molecular function of TEX13C in humans is not well defined, TEX13 family proteins—especially in mice—have been shown to possess transcriptional repressor activity and may play a role in transcriptional regulation during spermatogenesis[1][2][3]. Recent studies suggest TEX13C may have mRNA binding activity and likely participates in germ cell development, with stage-specific expression during spermatogenesis[5][2]. Despite its expression pattern, loss-of-function variants in TEX13C do not show a strong monogenic link to infertility in humans, and no role as a therapeutic or diagnostic target has been established[4]. No known drugs target this protein, and it does not have established biomarker or safety concern information.
