Target intelligence / Profile preview

Testis-expressed protein 2 (TEX2)

Target
TEX2
Molecular classification
Other (transmembrane protein, non-receptor), not currently classified as a receptor, enzyme, ion channel, or transporter
01

Overview

Testis-expressed protein 2 (TEX2) is a transmembrane protein encoded by the TEX2 gene, highly expressed in testicular tissue. It is predicted to localize to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and may facilitate contact between the ER and the medial-Golgi complex, potentially influencing lipid transport and response to ER stress or increased ceramide. There are no confirmed drug interactions or established functional roles in human disease, and it is not recognized as a therapeutic target at present.

Other names

02

Mechanism of action

None (no drugs currently known to target TEX2)

03

Biological functions

May function in the formation of membrane contact sites between the endoplasmic reticulum and medial-Golgi complex, particularly during endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress or when cellular ceramide levels increasePredicted to be involved in lipid binding and lipid transport; localized predominantly to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane
04

Disease associations

Other (no established direct disease associations or clinical relevance as a therapeutic target currently documented)
