Testis-expressed protein 9 (TEX9) is a 391-amino acid human protein characterized by two coiled-coil regions and several post-translational modifications (including phosphorylation and ubiquitylation)[2][6]. It is highly conserved across species and mainly localized to centriolar satellites within cells[2][4][6]. TEX9’s highest expression is in testicular tissue, with additional expression in thyroid, duodenum, and kidney[1][2][7]. The exact physiological function of TEX9 is not fully established; it is proposed to have ATP-binding properties and may play a role in cell differentiation or centriolar processes[1][2][6]. Some evidence links reduced TEX9 expression to increased tumor growth in mice, suggesting it may act as a tumor antigen or have roles in cancer biology[2][3][5]. TEX9 has been found mutated in low frequencies in several cancer types (head & neck, endometrial, colorectal, squamous lung)[2]. Clinically, it has been associated with male infertility and certain visceral heterotaxy diseases[4]. No direct pharmacological agents, biomarkers, or safety concerns are currently reported for TEX9, and further research is needed to clarify its functional significance, disease associations, and therapeutic potential[1][2][4][6].
