Testis-specific basic protein Y 2B (BPY2B) is a protein uniquely expressed in the human testis, encoded by the BPY2B gene located in the nonrecombining region of the Y chromosome.[1][3][5] The protein is implicated in the development of male germ cells, particularly spermatogenesis, and interacts with the ubiquitin protein ligase E3A.[1][2][4][5] There are three nearly identical gene copies in the human Y chromosome (BPY2, BPY2B, BPY2C), with BPY2B being one of these variants.[1][5][8] Deletions or reduced expression of BPY2B have been associated with cases of male infertility, such as Sertoli cell-only syndrome (SCOS) and other forms of spermatogenic failure, suggesting its relevance as a marker in these contexts.[2][5] However, BPY2B is not a therapeutic drug target, receptor, enzyme, or signaling molecule, but rather a structural Y chromosome-encoded protein involved in male reproductive function.[1][2][4][5] No drugs are known to interact directly with BPY2B, and no safety concerns are reported regarding its modulation.[2][5]
