Overview

Testis specific protein Y-linked 20, pseudogene (TSPY20P), is a nonfunctional segment of DNA located on the Y chromosome that resembles the functional TSPY1 gene. Pseudogenes like TSPY20P typically arise via DNA duplication or retrotransposition and accumulate disabling mutations (such as early stop codons or frame shifts) which render them incapable of encoding a functional protein. TSPY20P is one of many TSPY pseudogenes clustered on the Y chromosome; these are not known to have direct biological roles or associations with disease, nor are they considered to be therapeutic targets. Most references and evidence about "TSPY" proteins and potential disease relevance, such as the link to testicular cancers, apply to the functional gene TSPY1—not to its pseudogene family.

02

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None (as a pseudogene, it is not known to produce a functional protein)
04

Disease associations

No direct disease association; most available information and disease links are for the functional paralog TSPY1, not the TSPY pseudogenes
