Overview
Testis-specific protein Y-linked 4 (TSPY4) is a member of the nucleosome assembly protein (NAP) family encoded on the Y chromosome (gene location: chromosome Y: 9,175,073-9,177,893). It is predicted to function in chromatin binding and histone binding and is thought to play roles in nucleosome assembly, gonadal development, spermatogenesis, and possibly sperm differentiation. TSPY4 is primarily expressed in the testis, and its activity is relevant to processes in the male germline. An important paralog is TSPY9, and it is related to other NAP family genes such as TSPY and TSPYL1. There is no direct evidence connecting TSPY4 to specific human diseases or therapeutic drug development.
