Tetrapeptide repeat homeobox 1 (TPRX1) is a protein encoded by the TPRX1 gene in humans. It is a member of the homeobox-containing transcription factors, characterized by the DNA-binding homeodomain. TPRX1 is required immediately after fertilization for the activation of the zygotic genome, a key developmental event where gene expression transitions from maternal to embryonic control. It binds specifically to DNA sequences and regulates the transcription of key marker genes, including NANOGNB, ZSCAN4, DUXB, KLF5, and DPPA3, which are involved in early embryonic developmental programs. TPRX1 is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, or typical therapeutic target, and no drugs are currently known to act on it.
