Overview

Tetraspanin-3 (TSPAN3) is a cell surface protein belonging to the tetraspanin family, also called the transmembrane 4 superfamily. Tetraspanin-3 is characterized by four hydrophobic transmembrane domains and two extracellular loops, distinguishing it as a small, structurally conserved integral membrane protein[2][4]. Like other tetraspanins, TSPAN3 functions primarily by interacting with partner proteins, forming complexes that mediate signal transduction events and regulate various aspects of cell biology, including cell development, activation, growth, motility, and myelination[3][4]. TSPAN3 is implicated in physiological processes such as proliferation and migration of oligodendrocytes, and through its superfamily, it participates in roles relevant to cancer and tissue repair[1][3][4]. There are currently no well-established direct drug interactions, biomarker roles, or specific therapeutic safety concerns documented for Tetraspanin-3.
