Tetraspanin family pseudogene (ENSG00000226472 / AC008013.1) is a human pseudogene mapped to chromosome 12 that does not produce a functional protein. Like other pseudogenes, it is derived from the tetraspanin gene family but has lost protein-coding capability due to genetic alterations. While pseudogenes were once considered "junk" DNA, research has shown that some can influence gene expression through noncoding RNA functions, including serving as sources of regulatory RNAs or as microRNA decoys. However, there is no evidence to suggest this specific pseudogene is actively involved in such biological processes, nor is it implicated as a therapeutic target or disease marker.
