Overview

Tetratricopeptide repeat and ankyrin repeat-containing protein 1 (TRANK1) is a large human protein characterized by the presence of both tetratricopeptide repeats (TPRs) and ankyrin repeats, which are structural motifs facilitating protein–protein interactions and scaffolding roles within multiprotein complexes[6][1][3]. The gene encoding TRANK1 resides on chromosome 9 and is conserved across various vertebrates. TRANK1 is thought to be involved in functions related to brain development and neuronal signaling, with genetic variants influencing susceptibility to psychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia[6]. While its biological role centers on protein–protein interaction through its repeat domains, detailed mechanistic understanding and disease-modifying potential remain active research areas. TRANK1 currently has no known direct drug interactions, established biomarker applications, or validated therapeutic targeting.
