Overview

The tetratricopeptide repeat domain 14 pseudogene (LOC100130618, ENSG00000226636) is a genomic DNA sequence that resembles the protein-coding gene *tetratricopeptide repeat domain 14 (TTC14)* but contains mutations or truncations that prevent the production of a functional protein[4]. Pseudogenes are "genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but non-functional; they are regarded as defunct relatives of functional genes" and generally do not encode functional proteins or participate in the typical cellular processes associated with their related functional genes[4]. The TTC14 gene, for comparison, is predicted to enable nucleic acid binding activity and is involved in ectoderm differentiation, but the pseudogene itself lacks all established protein function, druggability, or known biological effect in disease[1][7]. There are no known drugs, disease associations, safety concerns, or biomarker roles for this pseudogene. Its only "function" is as an evolutionary remnant within the human genome.
