Tetratricopeptide repeat protein 23 (TTC23) is a protein-coding gene characterized by the presence of tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR) domains, which are structural motifs that facilitate protein-protein interactions and the assembly of multiprotein complexes [1][2]. Although its specific molecular function is not fully elucidated, TTC23 is hypothesized to participate in cellular signaling pathways and potentially the regulation of the cell cycle or ciliary function [1][3]. Significant interest in TTC23 arises from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) that have identified the TTC23 locus as a major determinant of renal function, specifically the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and its association with serum urate levels and blood pressure [4][5].
