Tetronic 1304 (also called Poloxamine 1304 or T1304) is a synthetic nonionic surfactant belonging to the Tetronic family of tetra-functional block copolymers, composed of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide blocks[1][4][6]. It is not a biological molecule, but a chemical excipient used predominantly as a wetting agent, emulsifier, and surfactant in ophthalmic products (such as rewetting and cleaning solutions for contact lenses) to enhance lens wettability, reduce protein deposition, and improve user comfort[2][4]. Its molecular weight is approximately 10,000 Da[6], and it can form micelles with a hydrophilic shell (PEG) and hydrophobic core (PPG), exhibiting temperature-dependent solubility and clouding behavior in aqueous solutions[1]. It does not directly interact with human proteins, receptors, or play a direct role in disease mechanisms.
