Overview

TFAP2E antisense RNA 1 (TFAP2E-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on chromosome 1 (hg38: chr1:35569807-35577808) that is transcribed antisense to the TFAP2E gene[3][7]. TFAP2E-AS1 does **not** encode a protein but is involved in the *regulation of gene expression*, particularly by influencing neighboring or distant genes at the RNA level. Experimental evidence suggests that TFAP2E-AS1 may act as a suppressor of cell proliferation and migration in gastric cancer, an effect positively mediated by the transcription factor KLF15 via downstream modulation of miR-3657[8]. Additionally, TFAP2E-AS1 is implicated in the regulation of immune cell (monocyte) activity, suggesting a possible role in the pathogenesis or modification of chronic inflammation and certain cancers[10]. There are no known small-molecule drugs or biologicals that directly interact with TFAP2E-AS1, and it is not considered a classic therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor. However, its altered expression has been noted as a potential biomarker for cancer prognosis and possibly for immune-related diseases[8][10].
