TGF-beta induced long non-coding RNA (TBILA)

01

Overview

TGF-beta induced lncRNA (TBILA) is a long non-coding RNA that is transcriptionally activated by TGF-β signaling. TBILA is upregulated in several cancer types and promotes tumor progression, especially through enhanced cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)[1][5]. It acts in part by modulating the activity of TGF-β pathway effectors, such as SMAD transcription factors, and can regulate genes associated with cancer metastasis and poor clinical prognosis[5][1]. TBILA and other TGF-beta-associated lncRNAs are being studied as therapeutic targets and biomarkers in cancer and fibrotic diseases due to their cell-type specificity and regulatory impact[4][5].

Mechanism of action

Potential drug targets may work by inhibiting TBILA expression or function, leading to decreased cell proliferation, migration, and metastasis

03

Biological functions

Promotes cell proliferationEnhances cell migrationFacilitates cell invasionInvolved in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)Regulates gene expression in response to TGF-β signaling
04

Disease associations

Cancer (including non-small cell lung cancer, and possibly other solid tumors)Tissue fibrosis
05

Safety considerations

General safety concerns for targeting lncRNAs include off-target effects, delivery efficacy, and possible disruption of normal gene regulatory networks
06

Interacting drugs

No direct therapeutic drugs targeting TBILA identified in current clinical or preclinical studies
07

Biomarkers

Elevated TBILA expression (particularly in tumor tissues) may serve as a biomarker for cancer progression or prognosis, especially in non-small cell lung cancer
