TGF beta-inducible nuclear protein 1 pseudogene

Overview

ENSG00000243695 is a pseudogene corresponding to the TGF beta-inducible nuclear protein 1 (TINP1). Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to known genes but are nonfunctional; they do not encode functional proteins due to mutations, truncations, or lack of regulatory elements. This locus is not used therapeutically and has no established physiological or pathological function. Its presence in genomic databases is primarily annotational, and it should not be mistaken for the functional TINP1 gene or protein[7]. For reference, the functional counterpart TGF beta-inducible nuclear protein 1 (TINP1) is implicated in cell proliferation and has roles in transcriptional regulation and cell signaling[4]. However, these functional properties do not apply to the pseudogene ENSG00000243695.
