Overview

TGF-beta upregulated long non-coding RNA in lung cancer (TBULC, also known as CTD-2033D15.2 or TGF-beta upregulated lncRNA in lung cancer) is a nuclear-localized, non-coding RNA of 1,020 nucleotides located on chromosome 15. Induced by TGF-beta stimulation via the Smad2/3 pathway, TBULC expression is markedly upregulated in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tissues, where it promotes tumor invasion, migration, and metastasis, likely through facilitating epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and other oncogenic processes. High expression of TBULC has been validated as a poor prognostic marker and an independent prognostic factor in NSCLC cohorts[1][2]. As of recent studies, TBULC is under investigation as a potential diagnostic, prognostic, and possibly therapeutic target, although there are no clinically approved drugs specifically targeting this lncRNA. TBULC is distinct from THBS1-AS1 and should not be confused with antisense or intronic THBS1 transcripts.
