Overview

THAP domain containing 5 pseudogene 2 (THAP5P2) is a human pseudogene, which means it is a non-protein-coding DNA sequence derived from a functional gene, often by duplication or retrotransposition, and has lost its protein-coding potential due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements[6][7]. Pseudogenes like THAP5P2 are sometimes transcribed into RNA, and while some pseudogene RNAs can participate in gene regulation (acting as microRNA decoys, antisense RNAs, or sources of siRNAs), there is no specific evidence that THAP5P2 itself produces functional RNA or plays such roles[4]. It is not considered a druggable or therapeutic target, nor are there any known drugs, disease associations, or biomarkers linked to it. The THAP (Thanatos-associated protein) domain is a distinct DNA-binding domain, but this particular gene is a pseudogene and is not believed to encode a functional THAP domain protein[6][7][3]. Because of its pseudogene status, it does not participate directly in biological functions or serve as a molecular target for pharmacological intervention.
