Overview

THAP domain-containing protein 2 belongs to the human THAP protein family, defined by its N-terminal THAP domain—a zinc-dependent DNA-binding motif structurally related to the C2CH zinc finger family[1][3][5]. The THAP domain is around 90 amino acids in length and coordinates a zinc ion, conferring sequence-specific DNA binding potential. THAP2 is thought to participate in DNA regulation and may be involved in biological processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle modulation, although definitive functional roles of THAP2 remain to be elucidated[1][2][5][7]. Diseases associated with THAP2 include ophthalmia nodosa and periarthritis, but there is limited understanding of its mechanistic involvement[4]. Unlike some THAP family members (e.g., THAP1), specific molecular interactions or pathogenic roles have not been well described for THAP2.
