THAP domain-containing protein 6 (THAP6)

THAP domain-containing protein 6 (THAP6) is a member of the THAP protein family characterized by the presence of a conserved THAP domain at the N-terminus. The THAP domain is a C2CH-type zinc-coordinating DNA-binding domain that belongs to the zinc finger superfamily[1][2][3]. These domains allow THAP proteins to function as sequence-specific DNA-binding factors and to regulate gene transcription. While the specific functional details of THAP6 are not well defined, THAP proteins in general are involved in transcriptional repression or activation, cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, and possibly in chromosome segregation and chromatin modification[1][2][3]. THAP proteins are present only in animals and have not been found in plants, yeast, or bacteria[3]. As of now, THAP6 itself is not recognized as a therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs, biomarkers, or clinical safety issues associated with it.
