Therapeutic agents

The term "therapeutic agents" refers to any pharmacologically active substance used to treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent disease in humans or animals. It is a broad term encompassing all classes of drugs, and does not indicate a specific molecular target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter[1][3][6]. Drug classification systems—such as ATC and USP—use "therapeutic class" as a category for grouping drugs by clinical use or pathology treated, not by molecular structure or biological function[1][2][4]. Therefore, "therapeutic agents" should not be considered or treated as a molecular or pharmacological target.
