Thiamine Transporter (THTR)

Target
THTR
Molecular classification
Solute Carrier Family (SLC), SLC19 subfamily, Major Facilitator Superfamily (MFS), Transporter
01

Overview

Thiamine transporters are membrane proteins responsible for the cellular uptake of thiamine (vitamin B1), an essential coenzyme required for energy metabolism in all cells. Humans and other mammals cannot synthesize thiamine de novo, so dietary uptake and efficient cellular import are critical. The main human thiamine transporters are SLC19A2 (thiamine transporter 1, hTHTR1) and SLC19A3 (thiamine transporter 2, hTHTR2).
