Thioesterase superfamily member 4 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

Thioesterase superfamily member 4 pseudogene (ENSG00000255627) is a nonfunctional genomic DNA segment related in sequence to the functional THEM4 gene but lacking the capacity to encode a functional protein product. Pseudogenes such as this can arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition and accumulate disablement mutations preventing normal gene expression or protein synthesis. While some pseudogenes in the human genome have been reported to produce regulatory RNAs or have subtle biological impacts, there is currently no evidence that this particular pseudogene encodes any biologically relevant product or plays a regulatory role. It is not a drug target and does not contribute directly to disease phenotypes or therapeutic responses[2][4].
