Overview

Thioesterase superfamily member 7, pseudogene (THEM7P), also known as RP1-65P5.1, is a human pseudogene that is homologous to members of the thioesterase enzyme family but contains sequence alterations (such as frameshifts or premature stop codons) that prevent production of a functional protein[1][3][7][8]. It is not regarded as a functional receptor, enzyme, or therapeutic target. THEM7P does not encode a protein and does not have established biological function, molecular interactions, or disease associations specific to itself. Like many pseudogenes, it may theoretically participate in post-transcriptional gene regulation (for example, as a competing endogenous RNA or microRNA sponge), but no experimental evidence is presently available to confirm such a role for THEM7P[2][4].
