Target intelligence / Profile preview
Thiol-specific antioxidant (TSA) is a protein enzyme that protects cells from oxidative damage, particularly damage mediated by reactive sulfur species and hydrogen peroxide. TSA acts as a thiol peroxidase, catalyzing the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and organic hydroperoxides using thiol-containing substrates, thereby preventing the formation of more reactive and damaging radical species. It is vital for maintaining redox homeostasis and protecting against irreversible oxidation/inactivation of key metabolic enzymes.
Catalyzes the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and organic hydroperoxides using thiol-containing substrates, preventing the formation of reactive radical species. Functions as a thiol peroxidase.
