Overview
Thioredoxin-1 (Trx-1) is a small, ubiquitous oxidoreductase protein (~12 kDa) that plays a central role in maintaining cellular redox homeostasis by catalyzing the reduction of other proteins. It is involved in antioxidant defense, redox regulation, gene expression, cell proliferation, apoptosis control, and S-nitrosylation. Dysfunction or altered expression has been linked with various diseases including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and inflammatory conditions.
