Thioredoxin domain-containing protein 16 (TXNDC16) is a member of the thioredoxin superfamily. It is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum lumen, where it contributes to redox homeostasis, electron transfer, and protein folding. TXNDC16/ERp90 is implicated in the delivery or recruitment of substrates to ERAD (endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation) machinery through interaction with ERFAD. This protein is encoded by the TXNDC16 gene on chromosome 14. Although associated in some genetic or expression studies with diseases such as post-vaccinal encephalitis and meningioma, there is no evidence that it is a direct therapeutic target or a biomarker, nor are there known drugs targeting this molecule.
