Thioredoxin domain-containing protein 17 (TXNDC17)

Target
TXNDC17
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Oxidoreductase, Thioredoxin family protein
01

Overview

Thioredoxin domain-containing protein 17 (TXNDC17) is a small (approximately 14 kDa) cytosolic enzyme that belongs to the thioredoxin superfamily[2][7]. It maintains cellular redox homeostasis via thiol-disulfide reductase and peroxidase activity, participating in various redox reactions by reversible oxidation of its active center dithiol to a disulfide[1][2][4][6]. TXNDC17 modulates TNF-alpha (tumor necrosis factor-alpha) signaling and NF-kappa-B activation, is involved in immune responses and protection against oxidative stress, and can reduce nitrosylated proteins and thiols[1][2][3][7]. It has been linked with disease roles such as cancer and rare genetic syndromes and is particularly important for general redox signaling and immune system regulation. No direct clinical drugs are known to target it as of 2025.
