Thioredoxin domain-containing protein 6 (NME9) is a member of the NME/NM23 gene family and the thioredoxin domain-containing (TXNDC) protein family, featuring an N-terminal thioredoxin domain and a C-terminal domain[6][4]. It is predicted to act as a nucleoside diphosphate kinase and may function as a regulator of microtubule physiology, particularly in tissues with motile cilia or flagella[1][4]. NME9 is expressed predominantly in testis and lung and is involved in maintaining cellular redox state, protecting against oxidative stress, and participating in the biosynthesis of nucleotides[2][1]. Recent studies suggest it is associated with disease states such as primary ciliary dyskinesia and various cancers, where its expression correlates with certain clinical risk factors and disease features[1][2]. However, its precise mechanistic role in disease and utility as a therapeutic target remain insufficiently characterized, and no direct drug interactions are currently documented in the literature.
