Thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) is a member of the α-arrestin family that acts as an endogenous inhibitor of thioredoxin (TRX). By binding to TRX, TXNIP modulates cellular redox reactions, glucose homeostasis, inflammation, and cell death. It plays a complex role in various diseases, acting as a tumor suppressor in some cancers while contributing to the pathogenesis of metabolic syndromes and neurodegenerative disorders.
