Overview

Thioredoxin pseudogene 6 is a predicted or annotated human pseudogene; it shares sequence similarity with functional thioredoxin genes but carries mutations that prevent expression of a functional protein product[6][7][11]. Pseudogenes are non-functional segments of DNA that typically arise from duplication or retrotransposition of protein-coding genes but lack the regulatory elements or intact coding sequence needed to produce a functional protein. There is no evidence that TXNP6 plays a direct or indirect role as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or regulator in disease. A pseudogene, by definition, is not considered a therapeutic target, enzyme, receptor, transporter, or similar druggable molecule[11]. No experimental or clinical literature identifies TXNP6 as having biological, pathological, or pharmacological function. This is distinct from its functional relatives (e.g., thioredoxin, encoded by the TXN gene), which are important oxidoreductases with documented roles in redox regulation, oxidative stress, and disease. TXNP6, however, is a non-coding genomic locus with no well-characterized biological or clinical relevance[6][7][11]. If investigating therapeutic, biological, or disease-modifying roles, focus should be on canonical thioredoxin genes such as TXN, not TXNP6.
