Thioredoxin-related transmembrane protein 1 (TMX1) is a member of the protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) family characterized by the presence of a thioredoxin-like domain and localization to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane. TMX1 catalyzes the formation, reduction, and isomerization of disulfide bonds in newly synthesized proteins, playing a central role in maintaining ER redox homeostasis and proper protein folding. It is implicated in cellular stress response mechanisms and may have a role in diseases involving oxidative stress and protein misfolding, such as cancer and cardiovascular disease.
