Overview

Thioredoxin related transmembrane protein 2 pseudogene 1 (TMX2P1) is a processed pseudogene closely related to the gene TMX2, which encodes a member of the thioredoxin family of proteins involved in cellular redox regulation. TMX2P1 itself does not produce a functional protein and is considered a non-coding RNA locus. Although some pseudogenes, such as PTENP1 and MT2P1, have demonstrated roles in regulating their parental genes via RNA-mediated mechanisms, no specific biological function or disease association has been reported for TMX2P1 in current biomedical literature. It is not considered a receptor, enzyme, or classic drug target, and no drugs act on it directly

Biological functions

None directly attributable to protein activity. As with other pseudogenes, possible functions may relate to post-transcriptional regulation, such as acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that can regulate the parental gene (TMX2) by sponging microRNAs, though no explicit function has been published for TMX2P1, unlike pseudogenes such as PTENP1
03

Disease associations

Other. Unlike PTENP1 and MT2P1, there are no published roles of TMX2P1 in disease such as cancer or inflammation as of the current search results
