Overview

TipA is a bacterial transcriptional regulator of the MerR superfamily that confers resistance to thiopeptide antibiotics. Upon binding to antibiotics like thiostrepton, TipA undergoes a conformational change that allows it to bind to promoter DNA and activate transcription of genes involved in drug resistance, including its own gene. It functions as a sensor and response element for thiopeptide antibiotics in various bacteria, particularly Streptomyces species.
