Target intelligence / Profile preview
Thiosulfate sulfurtransferase-like domain-containing protein 3 (TSTD3) is a predicted protein in humans and other vertebrates that contains a single rhodanese-like domain. Unlike classic thiosulfate sulfurtransferases, TSTD3 lacks a critical catalytic cysteine residue necessary for sulfurtransferase activity, and is therefore not expected to catalyze conventional sulfur transfer reactions[2]. Its specific biological role is unknown; there is no current evidence associating it with disease, therapeutic targeting, or physiological processes[2][3]. It is classified within the sulfurtransferase/rhodanese superfamily by sequence homology but awaits experimental characterization. Key distinctions: TSTD3 appears to be a structurally related, but functionally divergent, member of the sulfurtransferase family and is not predicted to function as an active sulfurtransferase enzyme[2]. No evidence supports TSTD3 as a therapeutic target, receptor, or biomarker at this time[2][3]. Note: TSTD3 should not be confused with thiosulfate sulfurtransferase (TST), also known as rhodanese, which is enzymatically active and clinically relevant[1][2].
None established; function as a classical sulfurtransferase is unlikely due to lack of catalytic cysteine in the active site[2].
