Threonine--tRNA ligase (TARS) is an enzyme that catalyzes the attachment of the amino acid L-threonine to its corresponding tRNA(Thr). This process is essential for accurate translation of the genetic code during protein synthesis. It belongs to the class II family of aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases and displays high specificity for both its substrate (L-threonine) and its cognate tRNA. Some members have acquired additional roles such as RNA splicing regulation, transcriptional control, translational regulation, cell signaling pathways involvement, or even acting as repressors under certain conditions.
