Thromboxane-A synthase (TXAS), also known as thromboxane A2 synthase or TBXAS1, is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) into thromboxane A2 (TXA2). TXA2 is a potent bioactive lipid involved in vasoconstriction and platelet aggregation, playing a critical role in hemostasis and cardiovascular physiology. TXAS activity leads to production of TXA₂, which induces blood vessel constriction (vasoconstriction) and promotes platelet aggregation at sites of vascular injury for normal blood clotting. It has been implicated in cardiovascular diseases, cancer progression, and asthma/bronchoconstriction. Because it plays a central role in thrombosis/vasoconstriction pathways—and thus cardiovascular risk—thromboxane-A synthase inhibitors have been explored as antithrombotic agents.
