Overview

Thymopoietin pseudogene 1 (TMPOP1; also known as Em:AB014080.3 or TMPOL1) is classified as a pseudogene—a nonfunctional segment of DNA that resembles the gene for thymopoietin but is not translated into a functional protein. Pseudogenes generally do not encode for proteins and are not considered therapeutic targets. While functional thymopoietin and related genes play roles in nuclear architecture and T-cell biology, the TMPOP1 locus lacks protein-coding ability and has no documented physiological or pathophysiological function. Thus, it is not considered an actionable or canonical drug target. TMPOP1 (thymopoietin pseudogene 1) is annotated as a pseudogene in genomic resources. Pseudogenes by definition do not encode functional proteins and are not classified as receptors, enzymes, or other typical therapeutic target classes. Canonical gene for thymopoietin is TMPO (or LAP2), which is a protein-coding gene with roles in nuclear structure and heart disease, but this is distinct and not the same as TMPOP1. No interacting drugs, mechanisms of action, or biomarker uses are described for pseudogenes like TMPOP1. There is no evidence TMPOP1 is in itself a disease gene or a therapeutic target. The entry is flagged as "incorrect" for a target, as pseudogenes are generally not actionable in a drug discovery or therapeutic context. In sum: Thymopoietin pseudogene 1 (TMPOP1) is a non-functional, non-protein-coding DNA segment and not a valid or actionable therapeutic target.

Biological functions

Other (No known protein-coding function; pseudogenes are generally nonfunctional as proteins but may have regulatory RNA roles)

Disease associations

Other (No direct disease role known; general pseudogene effects in gene regulation could, in theory, be involved in disease but not specifically documented for TMPOP1)
