Overview

Thymus, brain and testes-associated protein (TBATA), also known as C10orf27 or SPATIAL, is a protein encoded by the C10orf27 gene that is expressed in multiple tissues, notably the thymus, brain, and testis[2][3][4]. This protein modulates thymic stromal cell proliferation and thymus function, and has been identified as a ligand for HLA class I molecules in the thymus. In model organisms, TBATA is implicated in processes such as spermatid differentiation, neuronal morphogenesis, and synaptic plasticity. Polymorphisms in the gene encoding this protein are associated with autoimmune conditions such as multiple sclerosis as well as with other diseases including Hirschsprung disease 1 and Janus kinase-3 deficiency[3][4]. To date, it is not considered a typical therapeutic drug target, and there are no documented small-molecule drugs or approved therapies acting specifically on TBATA[3][4].
