Overview

Thyrotropin releasing hormone degrading enzyme antisense RNA 1 (TRHDE-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand relative to the TRHDE gene on human chromosome 12q21.1. As an antisense RNA, it does not code for a protein but regulates gene expression, potentially through interaction with complementary RNAs, modulation of mRNA stability, or acting as a sponge for specific microRNAs such as miR-449a, miR-103, and miR-181a-5p. TRHDE-AS1 expression is implicated in several cancers, particularly glioma, where it may serve as a prognostic biomarker and is associated with genomic features and the immune microenvironment. Its biological function is not fully elucidated, but bioinformatic analyses suggest involvement in synaptic and membrane-associated processes, and regulation of oncogenic and tumor suppressor gene expression networks, possibly through its ceRNA activity. It is not considered a direct therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter), but its biomarker potential is notable in the context of oncology.
