Overview

Tigger transposable element-derived protein 2 (TIGD2) is a protein encoded by the TIGD2 gene in humans. It belongs to the tigger subfamily of the pogo superfamily of DNA-mediated transposons, which are thought to be remnants of DNA transposons related to those found in fungi and nematodes, and most distantly to Tc1 and mariner transposases. These proteins have similarity to major mammalian centromere protein B. The exact cellular function of TIGD2 is not known, but Gene Ontology annotations suggest nucleic acid binding. No evidence indicates a current biological role as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or viable therapeutic target. Mutations in TIGD2 have been weakly linked to Parkinsonism, but no strong or direct disease mechanism has been described.
