Overview

Tigger transposable element-derived protein 3 (TIGD3) is a protein encoded by the TIGD3 gene in humans. It belongs to the tigger subfamily of the pogo superfamily of DNA-mediated transposons, which are related to DNA transposons found in fungi and nematodes, and are distantly related to Tc1 and mariner transposases[1][2][6][9]. TIGD3 proteins are structurally similar to the mammalian centromere protein B (CENP-B), but experimental evidence indicates that TIGD3 does not localize to the centromere and is unlikely to serve as a functional CENP-B paralogue[1]. The precise biological function of TIGD3 in humans is unknown. While TIGD3 gene expression is detectable and has been examined in various cell types, there is no evidence supporting a major role in defined cellular processes or disease mechanisms[1][2][3][6][7][9]. It is not classified as a validated therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor. TIGD3 is a protein-coding gene of transposon-related origin, present in the human genome, and not associated with a well-defined or targetable physiological or pathological role in current biomedical literature[1][2][6][9].
