Overview

Tigger transposable element-derived protein 7 (TIGD7) is a protein-coding gene in humans. The gene encodes a protein that belongs to the tigger subfamily of the pogo superfamily of DNA-mediated transposons. These proteins are distantly related to transposases found in other species, such as fungi and nematodes, and exhibit high similarity to the mammalian centromere protein B. TIGD7 has been annotated with nucleic acid binding function, but its precise biological role in humans remains unknown. Mutations or variations in TIGD7 have been associated, by genetic linkage, with developmental and bone diseases such as Holoprosencephaly 12 and Osteogenesis imperfecta, type VII. TIGD7 is not classified as a typical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or channel, and there is no evidence of interacting drugs or mechanisms of drug action. It is mostly referenced in the context of molecular genetics studies or as a target for research reagents (e.g., antibodies for protein detection). TIGD7 is sometimes referred to by the alias “Sancho.” There are no known safety concerns or established uses as a therapeutic target.
