Tight junction protein 3 pseudogene is a non-functional, non-protein-coding genomic sequence related to the protein-coding TJP3 gene. Pseudogenes are generally considered genomic "fossils": they may arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and lack the ability to produce a functional protein product. Unlike genuine therapeutic targets, pseudogenes do not participate directly in any known signaling, regulatory, or metabolic pathway and are not utilized for drug development or disease monitoring. The protein-coding form, tight junction protein 3 (TJP3), is involved in the linkage between the actin cytoskeleton and tight junctions in cells, playing roles in processes such as cell junction stability and cell-cycle regulation, but the pseudogene version does not share these functions[1].
