Overview

Tissue structure" refers to the **organization and arrangement of cells and extracellular components into functional units called tissues**. In animals, there are four primary types of tissues—epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous—each with distinct structures and functions. Epithelial tissue forms protective boundaries; connective tissue provides support; muscle tissue enables movement; nervous tissue transmits information[1][4][7][10]. The concept describes an anatomical or histological property rather than a specific molecule or therapeutic target. Disruption in normal tissue structure is often associated with injury or disease but "tissue structure" itself is not a molecular entity nor a druggable target[1][4]. **Note:** "Tissue structure" is not the name of any specific molecule, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other canonical drug target class. It describes an anatomical feature at the cellular/tissue level rather than a discrete molecular entity suitable for pharmacological targeting[1][4][7].
