Overview
Tissue factor pathway inhibitor alpha (TFPIα) is a key endogenous anticoagulant protein that regulates the initiation of blood coagulation. It acts primarily by inhibiting the tissue factor (TF)-induced coagulation pathway, specifically targeting and neutralizing the catalytic activity of factor Xa (FXa) and providing feedback inhibition to the TF-factor VIIa complex in the presence of FXa. It is the predominant isoform in humans and is found both as a soluble protein in plasma and associated with cell surfaces, particularly on endothelial cells.
