Tissue kallikrein 2 (KLK2), also known as kallikrein-related peptidase 2, is a trypsin-like serine protease predominantly expressed in prostatic tissue. It plays a crucial role in seminal clot liquefaction and sperm motility. KLK2 is implicated in prostate cancer progression, promoting tumor proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis. It is regulated by androgens and interacts with AR coregulators. Targeting KLK2 holds promise as a therapeutic strategy for prostate cancer.
KLK2 inhibitors suppress the growth of castration-resistant prostate cancer cells and increase apoptosis rates while arresting cell cycle progression at G1 phase.
