Overview

Tissue Transglutaminase 2 (TG2) is a multifunctional enzyme involved in various cellular and extracellular processes. It catalyzes protein crosslinking, deamidation, GTP/ATP hydrolysis, protein disulfide isomerization, and protein phosphorylation. TG2 plays key roles in cell adhesion, migration, growth, survival, apoptosis, differentiation, and ECM organization. Its involvement in various diseases, including wound healing, inflammation, autoimmunity (notably celiac disease), neurodegeneration, vascular remodeling, tumor growth/metastasis, and tissue fibrosis, makes it a potential therapeutic target.
